WINTER WEATHER & EMERGENCY SNOW ROUTES
Washington would like to remind residents as the forecasted weahter approaches that if snow accumulates 2 inches or greater, City employees will begin snow removal operations.
The City of Washington does have a designated Emergency Snow Route, as indicated below, that is marked with designated signage.
When a traffic emergency has been declared, it will be posted on the City’s Facebook page and submitted to local news media outlets and emergency alert system (IRIS) as available.
For the duration of the declared traffic emergency, it shall be unlawful to park a vehicle on any street designated an emergency snow route, or to operate a vehicle, unless it is capable of safely traveling through the designated emergency snow route and will not impede snow removal or cause a traffic hazard.
Traffic emergencies will remain in effect until terminated.
Notice of termination will be given via media outlets, websites, and emergency alert system (IRIS). If vehicles are not removed from the designated Emergency Snow Routes, they are subject to removal, towing and citation at the vehicle owner’s expense.
Designated snow routes are as follows:
(a) C Street from First Street to Fourth Street
(b) D Street from the north city limits to the north line of Hoerman’s Addition (city shop)
(c) F Street from the north city limits to Seventh Street
(d) Second Street from Crest Street to the east city limits
(e) Third Street from Lamar Street to the east city limits
(f) All of Lamar Street
(g) Sunset Lane from Lamar Street to Crest Street.
